The overriding theme of “God’s will” is compelling. The story is interesting and easy to follow.
Her characters are sincere and relatable. Lillard confronts an important issue often downplayed in traditional society, and is hardly ever considered in Amish communities. Will Matthew and Gracie be able to overcome their preconceived notions and build a real marriage and family?Ī Family for Gracie is a beautiful Christian romance. Gracie is devastated when she finally realizes that Matthew doesn’t want more children and expected a marriage of convenience. He doesn’t want more children and thinks he has communicated this to Gracie but she misunderstands and thinks he just wants to take it slow. He has broken his vow to never remarry for the sake of his children, who desperately need a Mamm (mother).

The book deals with some deep issues but the author deals with them with class and compassion.Īll marriage is hard work especially when you don't know your spouse very well and children from a previous relationship factor into the equation. I really felt for the baby crying constantly missing her mother. He has memories of her in better times before depression hits her. Matthew needs a wife and mamm for his children after his wife's death. Gracie has always yearned for a family of her own.

I love this series by Amy Lillard and was so excited to read this book. Sweet Gracie gets her own story as we revisit this series taking place in Pontotoc,Mississippi. This is the beautiful third book in the Amish of Pontotoc series. Anything with Doris Day and most all of Marilyn's and Audrey's. If you haven't seen it, you should! A-dorable.

I dislike people trying to convince me to read the Twlight series (I'll get to it or I won't, either way I'm good with it), gratuitous violence, and strawberry ice cream. Yes, that's me June Cleaver with a laptop. I love to cook and take care of my family. Okay, okay, I'm a bit old-fashioned and even enjoy the gender roles that are present in this culture. (And I love, love, love the fact that they stay married for their lifetime.) But until recently I never thought to blend this interest with my penchant for romance. I have always been intrigued with the Amish culture, their gentle ways and slower-paced lifestyle. I'm a big fan of country music, a staunch proponent of saving the Oxford comma, and I'm shamefully obsessed with all things Harry Potter. I love homemade tacos, nail polish, and romance novels-not necessarily in that order. (?) Rob and I have been married for over twenty years and have a son-a mom proclaimed prodigy, of course! I've retained a little of my Mississippi accent though most people think I'm from Texas. I moved to the Sooner State when I was seventeen and met my soul mate and best friend not long after.
